●Objective: Explain the importance, role, and structure of county governments in Texas (pgs.
325-333)
○How many counties does Texas have? Texas has 254 counties
○ What is the master role of county government? Do counties take the ability to pass laws
or ordinances? To regulate rural areas of the states. Ordinances are laws that are pass past the city
○ What are the main governmental tasks of counties? The master governmental tasks of county
regime are the maintenance of county roads and span, law enforcement, dispute
resolution, tape keeping, and administration of social services.
○How are counties organized, and how is authority distributed? These 5 functions are split
among the counties and overseen past public officials.
○Where exercise we find the organization of counties?
○Identify and draw the functions of county offices:
■ County Judge – is the head of commissioner'south courts
■ County Commissioners- maintain the roads and bridges and as well communities building to
their precinct
■ Commissioners Court –ready the canton tax rate and the canton budget
■ Sheriff- law enforcement
